A fatal accident involving a truck and a bus claimed seven lives, including two children, in the early hours of yesterday on the main Techiman-Tuobodom road.
The Bono East Regional Director of the National Road Safety Commission, Emmanuel Akyeampong-Pary, who confirmed this to the media, further indicated that 14 other passengers, including an officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, who sustained various degrees of injury were rushed to the Holy Family hospital in Techiman for treatment and are responding to treatment.
He said two of the injured were in critical conditions while the bodies of those who perished in the accident had been the hospital’s morgue.
At the time of filing this report, policemen and officials of the Ghana National Fire Service were at the scene to help clear the debris scattered at the point where the accident happened, and also to ensure free flow of traffic since that road is a major highway.
A source at the Tuobodom District Police told our reporter that investigations had commenced into the circumstances that led to the accident.
He cautioned drivers to be extra-vigilant during this harmattan, since visibility is quite bad at night and at dawn, to help reduce the carnage on the roads.
