A women’s organiser hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Cape Coast South constituency, Nana Adwoa Mbrah Appiah, has underscored the need for the involvement and empowering of women to contribute their quota to the development of the country.
She believes that the time has come for women in Cape Coast and its surrounding areas, especially, to be brought on board to accelerate the development in the area.
The women’s organiser aspirant said in an interview that the government under President Akufo-Addo had rolled out several interventions to support women across the country, and urged women to take advantage of the programmes.“We know the current government is passionate about women affairs, but women here are poised to do more to contribute to the national quota,” she said.
She noted that educating a woman is equivalent to educating the entire generation, as once espoused by the late Dr. Kwegyir Aggrey.
Empowerment
Mrs. Appiah explained that she is contesting the Cape Coast South women’s organiser position to primarily advance the cause of women in the constituency.
“My mission is to seek and champion the development and empowerment of women in the constituency, and the welfare of the constituency at large,” she told our reporter.
According to her, empowerment of women in the country is key, assuring that, with her as the NPP Women Organiser at Cape Coast South, she will champion policies to that will inure to the benefit of her constituents.
She urged the government to give more attention to women to facilitate their efforts to contribute to the development of the country.
Mrs. Appiah contended that in spite of the numerous interventions and the women empowerment programmes the NPP government had initiated, women in the Cape Coast South are left behind, thereby making the party unpopular in the area.
