Boakye Agyarko, NPP National Chairman hopeful
A former Minister of Energy, Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, has been described as a “formidable” candidate for the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as internal conversations intensify over the party’s future leadership direction.
The endorsement came from Henry Quartey, former Interior Minister, who is Campaign Manager for the “Boakye Agyarko 4 National Chairman” campaign team, in a statement issued to commemorate Mr. Agyarko’s birthday yesterday. While the message was celebratory in tone, it carried clear political significance, positioning the former Energy Minister as a strong contender to lead the party’s national administration.
Mr. Quartey praised Mr. Agyarko’s credentials as a seasoned academic and politician, noting that his experience within government and the party places him in a unique position to drive unity and discipline within the NPP.
“Today, we celebrate a remarkable academic, politician, and true inspiration to many. Your unwavering commitment to unity and dedicated service continues to motivate us all,” portions of the statement read.
He further emphasised that Mr. Agyarko’s leadership qualities, particularly his ability to mentor and inspire, make him a compelling choice for the role of National Chairman at a time when the party is seeking to reorganize, strengthen its structures and recapture power from the ruling National Democratic Congress in the 2028 elections.
Formidable
Describing him as “formidable,” Mr. Quartey argued that Mr. Agyarko possesses the strategic vision and organizational discipline required to reposition the NPP for future electoral success.
According to him, the party stands to benefit from leadership that is both firm and unifying, capable of consolidating its base while preparing for the challenges of the next electoral cycle.
“It is our hope that, for the good of our beloved party, the NPP will elect you as our next National Chairman in the upcoming elections,” he stated.
Mr. Quartey also linked Mr. Agyarko’s potential leadership to the broader political ambitions of the party, particularly the presidential aspirations of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s 2028 flagbearer.
He expressed confidence that under Mr. Agyarko’s stewardship, the party would become a “strong, disciplined, and formidable” force capable of serving as a solid anchor for Dr. Bawumia’s bid to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
