Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has suspended all Hall Week Celebration activities following a violent clash between students of the University Hall (Katanga), and Unity Hall (Continental).
The Executive Committee of the University, in a press statement signed by the Registrar, AK Boateng, indefinitely suspended the SRC week celebration as well.
Some rampaging students of the KNUST on Thursday, August 18, 2022, vandalised cars parked in front of the Continental Hall whereas other properties were damaged by the feuding students in a clash.
Cause
It is believed that attempts by students of Unity Hall to restrain their colleagues from the University Hall from using their frontage in a procession resulted in the incident.
Reports have revealed that order was restored after police reinforcements secured the scene and drove out the rowdy protesters. According to the University’s Executive Committee, the clash resulted in eleven people sustaining minor injuries with about nine cars being damaged.
The press release stated that a day after the clash, management directed the school’s Transport Department to take custody of all damaged cars and advise the school accordingly.
Authorities at the University have obtained CCTV footages from the school’s campus as they commence investigations into the incident.
Management, has, however, apologized to all stakeholders and called on the Ashanti Regional Police Command to swiftly investigate the matter.
